Charging and Remissions Policy
Introduction
All education during school hours is free. We do not charge for any activity undertaken as part of the National Curriculum although we may ask for voluntary contributions.
Voluntary Contributions
When organising school trips or visits which enrich the curriculum and educational experience of the children, the school invites parents to make voluntary contributions. If we do not receive sufficient voluntary contributions, we may cancel a trip.
If a parent wishes their child to take part in a school trip or event, but is unwilling or unable to make a voluntary contribution the child will participate fully in the trip or activity. Sometimes the school may pay additional costs in order to support the visit.
The following is a list of additional activities organised by the school, which require voluntary contributions from parents. These activities are known as ‘optional extras’.
This list is not exhaustive:
- Visits to museums;
- Activities which require transport expenses;
- Outdoor adventure activities;
- Visits to the theatre;
- Musical events;
- Residential Visits;
- Theatre company visits and workshops.
Residential Visits
If the school organises a residential visit in school time or mainly school time, which is to provide education directly related to the National Curriculum, we do not make any charge for the education, but parents will be charged for other expenses including board and lodging. Parents experiencing difficulty are asked to see the Headteacher in confidence. A small fund is made available annually from PTFA fund raising. (Parents who receive applicable benefits will receive a subsidy from government pupil premium funding, but will be asked to pay a reduced charge which will be decided on a trip by trip basis).
Music Tuition
All children study music as part of the normal school curriculum. In year 3 and year 5 all pupils receive tuition in violin and ukulele under the K2M project. There is no charge for this. There will be a nominal charge for individual music tuition (most usually delivered in small groups) from peripatetic teachers. School subsidise these sessions and a parent contribution per term will be charged. Costs with regard to the hire of instruments may also be required.
Remissions are available where parents are in receipt of applicable benefits via pupil premium funding. Where a pupil undertakes peripatetic tuition, school asks that the child and parents make a commitment to do so for the whole school year.
Swimming
The school organises swimming lessons for all children in Key Stage 2. These take place in school time and are part of the National Curriculum. We make no charge for this activity. We inform parents when these lessons are to take place.
Extra Curricular Activities including Sports Coaching
The school offers additional activities including sports coaching after school for which a charge will be made. Where a qualified FA coach, or sports coach who is not a member of the school staff, runs and organises these sessions a charge may be made.
